"Stay at home." This is the government's mandate during the first Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in Luzon when the pandemic hit us. Our own home is the most comfortable and safest place, but it's different from the case of an innocent girl who found dead and hogtied inside their house.
Gerlene Teria, a 14-year-old girl, was found dead and hogtied without undergarments inside their house in Pangarap Village, Caloocan City, last July 14, 2020.
Mary Jean Teria, the victim's mother, discovered her daughter's dead body when she returned from her sideline as a manicurist and pedicurist around 7 o'clock in the afternoon. Her beloved daughter was lying face down on the mattress and covered with blood. The victim's hands and feet were tied using a wire. Also, she had several stab wounds on her neck. According to the police investigation, there is a possibility that the victim was molested by the suspect.
Mary Jane Teria blamed her neighbour, Diomedes Llames, a 37-year-old jobless driver, as the primary suspect in killing her daughter. Before discovering the victim's body, she saw Llames coming out of their house when she arrived. She noticed Llames' shirt was dirtied with blood, and he was in a hurry.
According to her statement to the police, she and Llames had several disputes in the past. Those arguments might be the personal reason for the suspect to bear a grudge against her. In one of the fights, Llames accused Mary Jane of being infected by the coronavirus disease and spread this gossip in their village. Diomedes Llames filed a case against Mary Jane for not following the Inter-Agency Task Force's protocols for COVID-19.
The police conducted a manhunt operation against Llames. The authorities led by Captain John David Chua arrested the alleged suspect in Dau, Pampanga, on July 23, 2020. Chua's team convinced Llames' wife to help them arrest the suspect by convincing him to surrender. The suspect admitted the killing of the innocent girl. He insisted that he didn't rape Gerlene. It was indicated that the victim may have been raped in the medico-legal reports.
